After 2005 Mercedes stopped producing these 5-cylinder diesel with a capacity of around 2700cc. That makes sense, Volkswagen began from 1900cc four-cylinder diesel engines to squeeze more horsepower than this "heavy" 2700cc engine, and after 2005 at Mercedes by the slight difference between the 220cdi 320cdi and no intermediate model more valuable. So unfortunately for the former 500cc per cylinder diesel principle, 4-, 5- and 6-cylinder diesels respectively in 2000, 2500 and 3000cc content.
However, the REST of this large, lazy, 5-cylinder engine really is not comparable to a 4-cylinder engine, which nowadays squeezed as much horsepower from the engine, but at a much greater speed.
Modern 220cdi Mercedes finally does produce a more-speed automatic, making the speed finally quiet on a highway, but after switching 7x.
My first Mercedes was a 190D from 1989. (XT-89-KB I believe) four-speed manual transmission, manual windows (crank), huge luxury with a sunroof, you but without massive muscle never and was never mechanically open . No tachometer, air conditioning, or whatever, but all that was heavily handheld, never was, never really much !! At Spartan model I was already infatuated !!
Until I was overtaken again uphill with my 77PK oliestokertje in Germany by a truck when I bought a BMW 325tds from anger (the JN-XZ-94 I seem to remember) and the review thereof must still AutoWeek stand ......

You need to be a mathematician to conclude that the purchase of a used VW Passat many years younger with better technical specifications and to purchase the same amount as a much older Mercedes CLK 270 CDI is a more sensible choice.
- After having parked it at first quite a challenge to climb, for rear seated passengers, it is to get even an acrobatic tour to visit the world vertically with two feet from the extremely low car at a busy Albert Heijn, but after doing the shopping, it's a much more complex puzzle to decide where the grocery store in the car, then still a difficult puzzle how the messages also to get there. Yes, enjoy. 2050 rpm at 120 km / h. No comment at 4100 revolutions per minute and a speed of 240km / h. (all on the counters, because actually it is not according to the specifications) Fuel consumption at 120 km / h is not extremely low, but not much higher at 200 km / h !! 120, 160 or 180, it makes almost no difference if you have to refuel again. A big difference is only when driving in urban areas, compared with driving on a highway. Once on the highway makes it so no matter how fast you drive. • Cost / malfunctions
As I wrote, it is not a wise choice, it is not a cheap car.
For all diesel models from Mercedes after the introduction of the common rail system (CDI models) the following a major cost problem:
1. Replacement of an atomizer € 400, - per unit (ie per cylinder)
2. Spare fuel line system from the high pressure pump (plumbing leak, a lot of air and little fuel in the cylinder, cost depending on earlier maintenance and leakage)
3. fuel high pressure pump (1800 bar) € 1100, - euro
problems for all models after 2002 :
1. drive power steering pump and drive them to the front wheels. Costs could rise to € 6000, -
2. Electronic parts. (often, if a windshield is replaced by, for example CARGLASS leaking windshield, and there will be moisture in key electronics !! This often results after 8 months in unexplained malfunction and failure of the entire car, rust takes awhile, but get those costs but come back !!)
3. Cable connections under the seats in relation to the airbag system. There is nothing really broken, the dashboard displays have an SRS error message each time. You can just keep driving it, however, nice is not it ....
Strangely almost NEVER a problem:
1. Rust and rot / abrasion due to poor treatment factory
2. All parts of the automatic transmission
3. cylinder head gasket
4. Water pump / radiator / cooling system
5. Turbo diesel models
6. Glow Spirals (diesel)
7. Exhaust (including turbo)
8. Distribution chain (no belt, indeed)
9. Wheel bearings
10. Starter
11. All hydraulic brake system components
12. All electric motors, such as belt tightening, power windows, sunroof, air conditioning, radio / navigation / TV etc. PROVIDED THAT NEVER CHANGE THE WINDSHIELD !!
The last 12 components include BMW and Volkswagen (Audi) very common charge, and ALFA / FIAT / LANCIA and all French brands naturally occurring daily. Only Japanese brands get above assessment equivalent. American cars are factory as leaky as a sieve, so the weather when such a car is determined that interference will occur. This makes for American cars ever charting single clear picture as the image of a Mercedes.

I read after my review, and putting my own story into laughter, but it all makes sense. Meanwhile been the counter 321 750 and the car is outside one maintenance nowhere for the garage.
Well I have just an addition to the automatic transmission, in a test of AutoWeek and in a comment from a reader says that the automatic transmission has two modes, the "s" from Standard and the "W" of winter.
However, the automatic transmission in my CLK has the letters "C" and "S" (no "W")
So yes, it can be Standard or Comfort and Sport, I will still have to look at once ....
24- 06-2013 holiday coming up ...
The Mileage is now 326 300, but that does (thankfully and hopefully) increased by approximately 130km each day. Recently I have in this crisis or crises have time to move my work to Rotterdam, where fortunately still commands enough, but what takes daily many kilometers.
With a mileage of 299,000 Mercedes had its last turn, with a mileage of 315 000 I received a message: 1l Motorol bei tankstelle Fullen !! (or something) but I did get the same message with a mileage of 325,000.
Immediately refilled (26 euros for a bottle of one liter of Shell Oil) and the engine sounded healthier.
I do wonder, only 1 liter refill after 15.000km and now after 10.000km or motor at the end of her tether is coming .....

MOT, overhaul and reporting bugs (329 016 km)
Minor setback ...
Mileage 329 016, I have so 55,000 Km ridden, and the car must be inspected.
So, this is currently at Garage Van Riel in Terheijden, I live there anymore but family van Riel has really helped me all my life so I still like to come there.
I also had a whole list of things that came to my attention while driving this beauty. One of the reasons why I love Mercedes was because she never gives up, she begins to complain at first, but she always takes you from A to B !!!
The following emerged:
Necessary for approval:
four new tires. 18-inch, 235/35 Michelins, 600 euros
steering oil, overhaul, new license (these villains have probably ever destroyed a trailer hitch) MOT and labor, everything came to a total of 1265 euro, and I therefore could bring drive.
But the car is still in the garage because I want her to be perfect, and there are the following repairs / replacements required for:
- Starter motor turns (too long) along with the engine
- replacing Glow Spirals
- Stabilizer rod for and something control rods
- stabilizer bar rear
- Intake manifold
- Turbo hoses are in the past taped with duck tape (as you see but be careful to buy at cheap)
- Slide valves into a collection header (seems to be a familiar Mercedes cdi problem)
- which rubbers and bullets here and there
total additional costs 3,000 euros
So in total a cost of about 4200 near the euro.

I also drove more relaxed without license the risk for a ticket than a provisional license tied to any moment could fall off, too, is a special experience.
Maarja my colleague was so enthusiastic and helpful without knowing that I would be driving less relaxing, and assessed the risk of the consequences of an offense, such as driving without a visible license plate, probably different from me.

Update (374 722 km)
First of all thanks for the nice and positive comments !!
Meanwhile, it is time to find a replacement.
In retrospect appears overdue maintenance by the previous owner to be the culprit of the one-off major maintenance costs of more than 4000 euros, then I have no problem.
Out of curiosity and with a view on the future long are you going to still look around, and I doubt now, the new E-Class Cabrio is in fact affordable !!! And a convertible is quite fun suddenly something else again !!
Just because I do not see the Mercedes quality as I see in my CLK, all bumpers to mid front and rear, and the rear to nearly the window and the door are made of plastic, one minor collision against a pole consequence, as with Renault, Peugeot and Citroen a never to recover damages on which it replaced in the correct color of all that plastic huge costs are incurred.
The E-Class Cabriolet are also rounded controls away in the pretty solid on every corner, I see no stitched leather dashboard like in my CLK, a little square hard plastic Ford-like center console, can you imagine how I feel about it ugly with sharp square corners like finished steering wheel, also not provided with any stitching leather upholstery.
Through all these disappointments, I got to thinking and I drew the following conclusion !!
You have SQUARE and ROUND Mercedesen and exchange any models themselves in this same round-square-around cycle !!
The first C-Class: SQUARE, ROUND second, third SQUARE !!!
So look at a Mercedes not only to the corners of the headlights, but always look at the vents in the dashboard !!
They have a round shape, then you have to deal with a SPECIAL timeless model that retains its value and adding a little emotional. A Mercedes SQUARE vents? No noteworthy, Taxi-value drop, and no special model which makes you cheerful in a sjagrijnige mood after boarding !!! Haha, everyone is what he or she would naturally think, but this conclusion I drew right after investigation.
I now have four E350Cdi Cabrio versions can ride, but the emotional one: 1 binding was gone, it gave me the feeling to be in a sort of Playstation game while riding in these devices.
But the CLK hit the market, so today to one of the last of mohanikanen look anywhere near Utrecht, a Cabrio making quite a bit different but much too heavily priced, I suppose they may also understand themselves.

Indestructible (406 850 km)
A quarter 2015 is now almost worn in 3.25 years now traveled about 132,000 kilometers with the CLK.
The asking price for an E-Class Coupe 2011 or later gives in my opinion not the value of enjoyment compared to my current Mercedes, disappointed I did not drop asking prices in January 2015 still an expensive car in terms of road tax, insurance and use .
So I keep on class tiles in my old faithful oliestokerT i week some 1,200 kilometers along a row, excluding the trips to our second home in Poland.
Barendrecht four new wheels including winter found that the price was lower than four winter tires on rims beneath.
So, these wheels with winter tires designed for a C-class only get put under the tires are actually too narrow (only 225 wide front and rear same) but then again, now that the weather is better weather the rims are still going again under!
Unfortunately I can not post here only four small photos, so an explanation through images is almost impossible .... Picture 2 and 4 pictures show the different wheels, I think.
Well, the 4 tons passed now, and I've never been so long trouble-ridden as the last half year, it seems that the car is only now just like new !!
They also seem more economical with this winter, but with the other wheels week speedometer exactly 0% from indicating a tom-tom, and these wheels provide a deviation of 3 km / h, oddly enough at ALL speeds, the deviation not percentage.
